Mandatory YEO & Counselor Training on JUNE 1, 2019.  This mandatory training is for seasoned YEOs and Counselors, as well as those who are new to the RYE program.  The content rich day will ensure that you have the skills you need to be a successful volunteer. 

  • Date: June 1, 2019
  • Time: 9:00am – 4:45pm
  • Location: Whatcom Community College, Bellingham

288 W Kellogg Road, Cascade Hall room 123A (lower half of building, north side). No parking permits needed; parking available close by. Accessible room for wheelchair if needed, bathrooms right around the corner.

  • What to bring: laptop or tablet & your YEAH log in.

We will be in a computer lab, so if you can’t bring a computer, you can use a desktop computer at the college – but bring your YEAH log in information with you. If you don’t have a YEAH long in, contact Janice

  • Lunch will be provided.  We will try to accommodate dietary preferences
  • Cost: $20 donations will be accepted to defray the training costs.
  • The agenda includes:
    • Ensuring success for your IB and OB students (applying for visas, obtaining insurance, air tickets, school placement, etc.)
    • Supporting your IB and OB students through home sickness, culture shock, and so much more
    • Recruiting, training, and vetting host families, volunteers, and prospective students
    • Understanding the program’s reporting requirements and how to upload reports to YEAH.
    • Working with Rotex (Rebound) students (it’s not easy coming home).
    • Introduction to our wonderful new website,
    • District 5050’s Youth Protection Plan and the RYE Youth Protection Plan
    • RYE Travel Policy and Procedures
    • Introduction to YEAH – how to log in, navigate YEAH, determine whether your volunteers are in compliance or not, upload reports, and much more
    • The YEAH app – you need this!
    • Introduction to the STEP program (Short Term Exchange Program) – what is it and how to bring it to your club.
    • Budgeting issues for clubs, families and students
